Just turned 18 and want to get a credit card. I don't want a student card, secured card, or gas card. Where are places that I can for sure get one? Like departments stores. I have no credit history, no bills under my name, but I do have a full time job. I just opened my bank account a month ago, would it be easier to get a credit card from my bank?|||You can do all that when you turn 21. You must crawl before you walk, DAWG!|||You may want to wait till you have a little more history with your bank account and then apply for a card there.
Since you are under 21, you may have problems qualifying for any credit card. The new law requires that you must provide proof of sufficient income to qualify for a credit card or have a parent co-sign.
Even tho you don't want a secured card, you may have to start with one from your bank. Use the card and pay the balance in full every month. In a year you should be able to get a regular account and/or convert the secured card to a regular one.|||If you want to get a credit card, then do not apply for one now. If you apply without a credit history, then you will be denied and the attempt will make it harder to get one in the future.
Currently, without a credit history, you cannot get any credit card other than the types that you say you do not want. That might change in the future. If you want to get a credit card without first getting a secured credit card, then do not attempt to get any credit cards now; wait until it becomes possible to get a credit card without first getting a secured credit card or having a credit history.
Right now, the only way to get a credit card is to get a secured credit card first, use it to get a credit history, and then, and only then, get a regular credit card.
In the future, it might be possible to get a regular credit card first, if you wait until then to apply. If you apply now, then you may not be able to get one later, because you will have a history of applying.|||Apply for a first credit card at a local bank or where you do your checking. The credit rate will be slightly higher on the card - however you can make payments at the bank or via online banking for convenience %26amp; if there is ever any problems you can deal with someone person to person at the bank. Plus the bank will start you out with a minimum which will keep you from spending more than you can keep up with. Happy 18th|||If you're not willing to get a student or secured card, you're going to find that your choices are VERY limited. I would highly consider a site like Findcollegecards online that can help you with your choice. Good luck!
